Rebecca acts for a wide range of domestic and international clients across a variety of industry sectors, including commercial construction, large-scale residential developments, energy process plants and civil infrastructure projects.

Having experience in all forms of dispute resolution, Rebecca’s practice has focused on international arbitration, litigation and adjudication.

Rebecca has acted for clients in arbitrations utilising the ICC and SIAC rules, and has experience with the major standard forms of contract including JCT, NEC and FIDIC, as well as bespoke contracts, including EPC forms of contracts, used in domestic and international projects.

Rebecca is a New Zealand qualified solicitor.

Specialist expertise

Examples of Rebecca’s expertise include:

  • acting for a supplier in a dispute in relation to a project of national significance in Kuwait;
  • acting for an employer in ICC arbitral proceedings relating to claims for extensions of time and additional works under a bespoke EPC Contract in respect of a 190MW dual-fuel combined-cycle plant and associated facilities in the Caribbean;
  • acting for manufacturers and contractors in TCC proceedings in connection with the implications of the Grenfell tragedy, including matters related to fire codes and building regulations, cladding issues, and the Building Safety Act;
  • acting for an employer in relation to claims for Availability Liquidated Damages arising during the Defects Liability Period as a result of turbine defects at an energy-to-waste facility in two successful, high value adjudications involving complicated expert evidence;
  • acting for a supplier in a dispute in relation to a project of national significance in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia;
  • acting for a contractor in a dispute in relation to the rehabilitation, design and construction of a road of national significance in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, using the FIDIC Multilateral Development Bank Harmonised Edition March 2006 (the Pink Book) as amended, involving the SIAC Rules of Arbitration;
  • representing a leading insulation manufacturer in connection with the implications of the Grenfell tragedy and the impact of changes to building regulations relating to cladding of buildings over 18m in height;
  • representing a local government body in a number of court proceedings relating to its role in the consenting, inspection and certification process for both residential and commercial construction projects in its jurisdiction;
  • acting for contractors in connection with reinstatement of residential buildings following the Canterbury earthquakes in 2010 and 2011; and
  • advising a large electricity distribution company in relation to claims for damage caused by wild fires and outages.
