Ahmed Ibrahim speaks at Dubai International Arbitration Centre training session

As part of their efforts to promote commercial arbitration in the Middle East region and to exchange expertise and knowledge in the area of alternative dispute resolution, the Dubai International Arbitration Centre (DIAC) in cooperation with the Kuwait Bar Association, organised a training course entitled ‘The Role of Arbitration in Settling Disputes’.

The training session, which was attended by Kuwaiti lawyers who also benefited from the expertise of DIAC, focused on enhancing knowledge and experience of international commercial arbitration and its role in settling trade disputes in accordance with the Dubai International Arbitration Centre guidelines and procedures based on the UAE Civil Procedure Act No. 11 of 1992.

The training, held under the supervision of Dr. Habib Al Mulla, Chairman Board of Trustees, DIAC, and Prof. Dr Tarek Fouad Riad, Chairman of the DIAC Executive Committee, was conducted by Ahmed Ibrahim, Partner, Fenwick Elliott LLP – Middle East, Shaaban Raafat Abdellatif, Director, Legal Affairs, Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) and Ahmed Al Mansouri, Managing Partner, Mansouri Arbitration, Egypt.

Ahmed spoke about initiating arbitration proceedings and the best practices in nominating and appointing arbitrators.

The training session is part of the Dubai International Arbitration Centre’s efforts to promote the latest means of resolving trade disputes, including commercial arbitration and alternative means of resolving trade disputes thus showcasing the distinctive business environment of Dubai which protects the rights and duties of overseas companies as well as their FDIs.
