Following the launch of the Jon Miller Scholarship in April 2025, Fenwick Elliott is proud to announce the award of the inaugural Scholarship to Ms Gizem Demir.
The Scholarship has been established in memory of Fenwick Elliott partner Jon Miller, who passed away in September 2024. Each year the Scholarship will be awarded to a new student beginning their legal studies at Queen Mary University of London’s School of Law, where Jon studied. Scholarship students will receive a bursary for each year of their studies, alongside mentoring and work experience with the firm.
The Scholarship aims to support wider access for those wishing to study law, in tribute to Jon, who left school at 16 to start an apprenticeship in the construction industry before switching to a law degree at Queen Mary.
Karen Gidwani, Senior Partner at Fenwick Elliott, commented: “We are immensely proud to have Gizem as our inaugural Jon Miller Scholar. Her work ethic and passion for learning shone through in her application and interview, and we look forward to supporting her during her studies. One of Jon’s finest qualities was his selflessness and willingness to help people. As students follow in Jon’s footsteps at Queen Mary’s School of Law, we are glad to play a small part in continuing the encouragement and support he gave to so many.”
Applications for the 2026 Jon Miller Scholarship will open in May 2026 and are available to students of limited means holding an offer to study law at Queen Mary. For further details please visit: Jon Miller Scholarship - School of Law [1].
